What a wonderful day I have been having! The cold weather seems to be gone for good and today was sunny and warm. Though I'm disappointed that there will be no snow, I am thankful that the weather is now normal for the Caribbean. I pray that we will have an uneventful Christmas.

Belle and I ran errands for Mr. Burroughs this morning at the general store. Finnen Sweeney was there and I think Miss Fawkes has her eye on the boy. They certainly would make a lovely couple and I was surprised that he didn't ask her to go with him to the ball. Her brother also came into the store so I was able to give him his birthday present. He seemed to like it though I don't know why. I should have spent more time working on the coat, the stitching was sloppy and the fabric was not of the quality he deserves. Thankfully he won't be able to wear it now that the weather has changed.

On the way back to the workhouse I ran in to Miss Joy Hawkins. She is such a peculiar girl and actually wants to wear trousers! She disagreed with me when I told her dresses are things of great beauty so I made a wager with her. If I can't fashion her a dress that will make at least ten men ask to dance with her at the ball, I will sew her a pair of trousers. I will not lose! My blue silk would go wonderfully with her golden hair...too bad the dress I made with it won't work on her. She is much taller than I... I will think of something, I know I will. I have to win this! If I do, everyone in the colony will know of my dressmaking skills! I have a lot of work ahead of me and only a few days to do it...

I almost didn't leave the workhouse today because of the cold but I'm so thankful that I changed my mind at the last minute. I went to the Vicarage as usual and was finally able to meet Belle's brother, Elias. He is a very charming young man but I made such a fool of myself infront of him! I blushed constantly and seemed to always bring up embarrassing details that his sister told me. The worst one was when he brought up seeing dead relatives to Verity Pemberton. When I introduced him to her, I brought up the fact that he and his sister saw their brother Oliver their first day in St. Erasmus. It was terribly unacceptable and I quickly left the inne in shame. I have offered to make Mr. Fawkes a coat for him, considering he too fell victim to thinking that winters in the Caribbean are warm. Perhaps this will allow me to make up for my the horrible behavior I displayed today. He must think his sister lives with complete barbarians! I am so ashamed!

P.S.Honor Dunn came in while we were talking and Mr. Fawkes kissed her hand when she introduced herself to him. I must admit, diary, I was a bit jealous but I did my best not to show it.

P.P.S. Verity Pemberton asked if I knew where she could find some high quality fabric. Unfortunately the only way I know how to get such material in the colony is through Mr. Collomor.

Cassandra and I baked a cake today for the next Jewels of Feminity meeting. I used my mother's apple cake recipe. I turned out exactly like it was supposed to but just the smell of it really made me miss home.

Ack...I think this would have been better had I more friends....
Joy, I'm so honored that you're going to pay off my contract but I'm almost certain our marriage would be illegal in St. Erasmus :(

This afternoon I tried once again to find Miss Barnes' house. Thankfully there was a small crowd in the circus and a woman was kind enough to give me directions. That was the only nice thing she did. She was wearing trousers instead of a dress and she was absolutely horrible to me! That wretched Mr. Collomor was there too. I think the woman was one of his crew mates. Can you imagine? A woman sailor! What a scandalous occupation for a lady! They were being absolutely dreadful to the new apothecary. Poor Mr. Kimble! Yes he can come across as a grumpy man but I'm sure he's really quite kind and no one deserves that sort of treatment. Especially not from cruel and despicable sailors like Mr. Collomor and his 'lady' friend.

A new girl came to the workhouse today. Her name is Christobelle Fawkes and she is very nice. Her older brother also moved to St. Erasmus but he is trying to find work in town because he doesn't want to live in a house for young women. It's a shame that he won't be living with us, poor Mr. Healey could do with some male company. Speaking of Mr. Healey, he still won't speak to me. I have apologized profusely for what happened at Samhain and for the loss of his lucky needle but he refuses to listen to me.
That horrid gossip section in the paper is back and yours truely was mentioned in the same sentence as that evil sailor Mr. Collomor. It described our arguement in the street and suggested that he was going to buy my contract! I would never accept such an offer from him! Two more years with Burroughs is much better than a lifetime with such a vile man.
P.S. I am almost finished with my dress, but it has been so hard lately to find a private place to work on it.

I tried to give the fabric back to Mr. Collomor but he wouldn't take it. He threatened to leave it lying in the middle of the street and to tell everyone the the truth about it!! I have decided to keep the silk and make the most beautiful dress St. Erasmus--nay, the entire Caribbean---has ever seen! Then I will marry a rich handsome man and never have to see horrible dirty sailors ever again! I think the one on the left will work just fine.

P.S. The rogue said for another kiss he would pay for Hope and my dress shop! I highly doubt a sailor has enough money for that. Also, the horrid man didn't even recognize me until I pulled the fabric out of my basket.

After I left the workhouse I wandered around town a bit before going into the Vicarage. There were many interesting people in there today. First I spoke with a mother and her little boy, they both reminded me of the family I used to work for. The boy was a handfull and very rude but I think I got him to like me in the end. The mother seemed like everyother woman of her class so I forgive her for the way she spoke to me. After they left, I talked with Miss Clarity Dunn for awhile and I met Mr. James Barnes for the first time. He has a darling little sister named Solace and she and I talked long after her brother left. They are very nice and I hope I have the pleasure of seeing them in the future.

I am such a fool! Hope scolded me for bringing Mr. Collomor into the house because one of the other girls could have seen it and turned me in to Mr. Burroughs. She said that if I was sent to England she was coming with and I became so upset with her! She had a terrible life back there yet she was willing to give up her life in St. Erasmus to follow me. Then I yelled at her! I feel terrible, she is my one and only friend in the colonies but I was so angry! I've become such a bad person since I've come to St. Erasmus and now I'm taking it out on other people. I won't drag Hope down with me, I promise. I'm going to stay away from everyone until I go back to the way I was or, something else all together....
